I guess I’ve always expected enlightenment to be this great ah-ha moment, with bells and whistles and lights going off, but it’s not. Enlightenment may be a gradual and subtle experience. It might just sneak up on you one day.
How do I see enlightenment? It’s awakening to the fact that all in the Universe is connected. That concept is foreign to many. It indicates that we are as connected to our garbage as we are a whale or a dolphin. That what we do here on earth may affect the entire universe.
In my mind, we are connected by the Great Grid. That’s a concept I can see in my mind’s eye. Thought forms travel over the grid at tremendous, almost instantaneous speed. Time and space do not exist. This is the reason distance energy healing works, and how concepts travel instantaneously over the planet. Remember the story about the monkeys who started washing their food before eating it? Monkeys on the other side of the planet started doing the same thing. There is a scientific theory in Quantum Physics called Quantum Entanglement. This theory states that very thought.
All things are connected no matter how far apart. This has been proven. In the Baghavad Gita (Chapter 7, Sloka 7), written over 2,000+ years ago, Krishna states, “Oh Arjuna, great conqueror of wealth, there is no truth superior to Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearls are strung upon a thread.” Thus, “God” can be viewed as the string that holds everything together.
Enlightenment is also an ability to see and feel the results of our actions on other beings. This could be people, animals or even the planet Herself. If we cause harm to one of them, we have the ability to feel the hurt we have caused. And, added to the knowing that we are all connected, we understand that what we do to others or to the planet, we do to ourselves.
When we finally grasp this concept, it becomes nearly impossible to do harm to others.
Through enlightenment we realize that all humans are spirit souls, not their bodies. Thus, the color of their skin, the god they worship, the manner in which they love or how they look is irrelevant. Each living being is a soul and at the soul level there really are no differences, just different levels of soul growth.
So to me, it doesn’t matter how many times a week you go to church, what religious articles you wear, how often you pray, or how much Bible verse you can spout. True enlightenment comes from having a higher view of existence, and doing no harm to others, the planet, or even the Universe.
